Michael 'Mike' Stallard (1944)

Biography

Michael Stallard (b. Worcestershire, UK 1944) studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Bristol School of Art Education.  He worked directly with found materials, marble and casts metals and resins. He had numerous commissions in the 1990s including a carving for an interior courtyard at Homerton Hospital in London and carvings in black marble for the Sultan of Brunei.  His work in marble was exhibited in many galleries in London. His work has exhbited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions. In 2008 Stallard received a commissionb for the Solarium Deck of Caribbean Cruise Line's new ship 'Oasis of the Seas'.  His work is represented in numerous private collections in Europe and the USA.

Stallard has said of Around Zero (1988), University of Warwick Art Collection, from the collection of Eric and Jean Cass, that it was developed from rubber window strips found in a crap-yard. Unlike most of my work, which is carved in marble, Around Zero was made in clay and cast in fibreglass.”
