Samara Scott (b. 1984, London) revels in the emotional resonance of contemporary consumerism, the glut of imagery on the internet and ephemeral urban materials; addressing head-on our complex and conflicted contemporary experience of the body. Scott creates works that explore the colour, texture and sensation of the image environment that consumes daily life while using a myriad of everyday materials such as nail varnish, make-up, tin foil and felt that reflect on the superficiality of this experience. Within her digital images, sculptural pieces and installation works Scott references numerous aesthetic styles from the history of decorative arts and design including as Post-Impressionism, Colour Field painting, postmodern décor and present-day pop iconography.

For her current exhibition High Street at the Zabludowicz Collection, Scott has produced a major new installation, centred around large sheets of glass densely encrusted on their reverse with multiple objects. These semi-transparent sculptural surfaces are joined by a large wall mural made using toothpaste, in a process that transfers and bleeds the ink from magazine images.

Samara Scott has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Eastside Projects, Birmingham in 2015 and recent exhibitions include Baggy, MARS!, Munich (2014); Cd0xdsspi, Rowing Projects, London (2013); Poems, Almanac, London (2013); Cascading Style Sheets, Peckham Palazzo, Venice Biennale (2013); Duty Free, Arkasşirket Foundation, Istanbul, (2012); Young London, V22, London (2012); Samara Scott & Marianne Spurr, Seventeen Gallery, London (2012); Seriously Connected Old Grey Hair, Christopher Crescent at HD: Projects, New York (2012); and The Response, The Sunday Painter, London (2012).

Samara Scott: High Street is at the Zabludowicz Collection until 10 August 2014.
