Biography

The collection of paintings at Gregynog consists of works once in the possession of Gwendoline and Margaret Davies, who bequeathed their internationally famous collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings to the National Museum of Wales in the 1950s. Many items in their collection were bought by, or bequeathed to, the University of Wales as part of Margaret Davies’s gift of Gregynog to the University in 1960. The collection has been augmented over the years by additional purchases and by works presented by artists who spent time at Gregynog as Visiting Arts Fellows. The paintings hang in public rooms, private rooms, bedrooms and corridors all over the house, as they did when Gwendoline and Margaret Davies made Gregynog their home.
