Elephant Park: Ryan Gander

Ryan Gander

The Details

A community-conceived artwork led by Ryan Gander OBE has been commissioned for Elephant Park in South London.

Ryan Gander began the commission by working with the South London Gallery on a series of workshops for local school children that brought together the children's playfulness and imagination to co-create the form of the final artwork. This final work will have several elements at different locations, forming a trail around the park - a new two-acre green space - for existing and future communities, and visitors to the area, to discover and enjoy.

Alongside the workshops and the final artwork, Gander has published The Future Sketchbook with drawn activities to inspire children to think about their future place in the world. The book is available to all schools across Southwark and as a digital download to children everywhere.

Elephant Park is the £2.5bn regeneration project in Elephant & Castle being jointly delivered by Lendlease and Southwark Council. It is breathing new life into this special part of Central London and the new artwork will form a memorable feature for local communities and visitors. Ryan Gander was invited to the role following a curatorial process led by *Consultancy.

*Consultancy previously delivered the Public Art Strategy for Elephant Park in 2018, see: Public Art Strategy for Elephant Park
