Brendan Stuart Burns (1963)

Biography

Brendan Stuart Burns (b. Nakuru, Kenya 1963) studied at Cardiff College of Art (1981-85) and at the Slade School of Art (1985-87). He won the Gold Medal in Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Llanelweed in 1993 and Bro Ogwr in 1998. In 1991, Burns was artist-in-residence, Llanfrechfa Grange Mental Health Unit, Cwmbran. He taught at the Glamorgan Centre of Art and Design Technology from 1994. His solo exhibitions were held at Y Tabernacl, Machynlleth, and National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, both 1999, and Newport Museum and Art Gallery, 2002. Gordon Hepworth Fine Art, Newton St Cyres, and West Wales Art Centre, Fishguard, which gave him a one-man show in 2003 and represented him. Burns was Welsh Artist of the Year in 2000 and 2003.
