Saul Fletcher’s photographic practice began with images of sculptural assemblages on his studio wall, and the constricted space of the studio setting still plays an important role. The wall serves as a surface for scraps of text, stray marks, the layered traces of previous work and found objects that are introduced fleetingly, then disappear. Fletcher’s photographs of landscape have a similar, highly-charged sense of impermanence.
