One of nine bronze maquettes made as an afterthought by the sculptor in 1988. Sandle worked on the large sculpture Der Trommler (The Drummer), 1985, an edition of which is at the Tate (T04941), in Karlsruhe, Germany, where since 1980 he taught as Professor of Sculpture at the Akademie der Bildenen Künste. He started with a wood and plasticine maquette, 26 cm high and then a full-scale plaster version.
