Join us for this out-of-hours exhibition tour at the Laing Gallery of work by critically acclaimed artist Torsten Lauschmann, led by Clive Gillman, Director of Dundee Contemporary Arts.
As an artist, filmmaker and live performer, Torsten Lauschmann celebrates the glitches and out-takes, bits in between and images that might otherwise be ignored. Born in Germany (1970), and now based in Glasgow. Described as too slow to be film, and too fast to be photography, his work has evolved to investigate the mechanics of digital processes, software creation, experimental editing, approaches to performance and the sculptural potential of video. Lauschmann works across old and new technologies to create magical installations that reference pre-cinematic optical entertainment and the power of illusions.
This solo exhibition, which is part of AV Festival 12, responds to the context of the Laing, continuing his interest in the history of image technology from paintings to game engines. It follows recent exhibitions at Dundee Contemporary Arts (2011), Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (2010), Arnolfini, Bristol (2008) and the ICA, London (2008).
