This bespoke artist curated event will take place on Tuesday 17 November 2020.

On a bespoke virtual platform from Phyllida Barlow’s studio

With dinner specially created by Ottolenghi delivered to each home and an exclusive operatic performance by soprano Natasha Day and pianist David Malusa​.

This is a fundraising event, all proceeds directly benefit the charitable mission of the Contemporary Art Society.

Responding to our current times, and our desire to bring Patrons and CAS friends together, the twelfth edition of The Artist’s Table will be a unique blend of virtual experiences, together with a live stream by Phyllida Barlow from her studio where she will be joined by special guests including 2021 Turner Prize Judge Russell Tovey. We welcome individuals and groups of any size to purchase tickets and enjoy in your own home, as well as our international Patrons and friends. This evening, curated by Phyllida, will include a bespoke three-course dinner created by Ottolenghi, delivered to your door with a creative twist. Each home will be live-linked into Phyllida’s extraordinary studio for entertainment chosen by the artist, with Russell Tovey acting as the Master of Ceremonies.

Phyllida is also creating a number of unique works that will be available for purchase exclusively to ticket buyers and guests.

Phyllida Barlow (b. 1944, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK) studied at Chelsea College of Art (1960–63) and the Slade School of Art (1963–66). After joining the staff in the late 1960s, Barlow taught at the Slade School of Art for more than forty years before retiring in 2009, and is now Emerita Professor of Fine Art. Phyllida Barlow has had an important influence on younger generations of artists through her work and long teaching career in London art schools. In 2011 Barlow became a Royal Academician and in 2015 she was made a CBE. Recent solo shows include Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh (2018): Turner Contemporary, Margate (2017); Kunsthalle Zürich (2016). Barlow represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale 2017. Recently she was included in group exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt; and Firstsite, Colchester (all 2018). Phyllida Barlow is represented by Hauser & Wirth.

The Contemporary Art Society has acquired six artworks by Barlow over the years. In 2011 Nottingham City Museum & Art Gallery received sculpture Disaster III (2010) and Crushedshape (2010) and Basel structure (2010), both acrylic on watercolour. The CAS has also acquired Hoarding Venice (2017), acrylic on watercolour, for the British Museum in 2017 and, most recently, two sculptures untitled: venicecolumns (2016-17) and HOLD (1986-89) for Leeds Art Gallery through a new Contemporary Art Society and Henry Moore Foundation partnership.

In the event that you are not able to attend the event tickets are refundable if one calendar month in advance of the event otherwise a refund is not possible. The ticket is transferable provided the Contemporary Art Society is aware of the new guest name one week in advance of the event. It is NOT possible to resell the tickets.
