Public Art Forum: Contemporary Processes of Commissioning

The Contemporary Art Society hosted a panel discussion in November 2013 exploring contemporary processes of commissioning public art. The evening saw five leaders in the field give short presentations on their work in the public realm, after which a lively discussion ensued chaired by Contemporary Art Society Art Consultant Helen Nisbet. The panel consisted of: Kathrin Bohm, Artist and Founder of Public Works and Louise Coysh, Curator, Art on the Underground Michaela Crimmin, Co-Director Culture and Conflict and Lecturer at the RCA Claire Doherty, Director, Situations Liza Fior, Director Muf Architecture Questions and discussion centred around the mixed experience of commissioning public art within the current cultural landscape, the challenges of curating for the public realm and future directions for public art practice. This in-depth examination of  contemporary practice raised inspiration and aspirations for the audience of practitioners and interested public.
