Christie Brown MRSS (1946)

Biography

Christie Brown (b. Yorkshire, UK 1946) studied at Manchester University (1966-69 )and  drawing and pottery at Sir John Cass School of Art, London (1976-7); graduated in studio pottery from Harrow School of Art in 1982 and set up her north London studio that year. She was Professor of Ceramics at the University of Westminster in London and was Principal Investigator on the AHRC funded project Ceramics in the Expanded Field, awarded to the University’s Ceramics Research Centre (CRC-UK) in 2011; and continues as a member of the CRC-UK. She has exhibited her ceramic sculpture widely in the UK and abroad and frequently lectured about her practice at international residencies and conferences. Brown has an interest in ceramic artefacts from burial sites, and the way in which such items carry deeper meaning. She has exhibited work widely and is represented in public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal Museum of Scotland, York Art Gallery, Museum of Decorative Arts, Montreal and the Mint Museum USA. She is represented by Messums Gallery, London and Wiltshire.
