Following the departure of Rebecca Morrill in November we are delighted to announce the appointment of two new members of staff for the North team – Matthew Hearn who will be covering the North East region and Moira Innes who will be responsible for Yorkshire.
Moira Innes – Collector Development Manager, Yorkshire
Moira has considerable experience working in various roles in the contemporary art sector including curation, project management, exhibition logistics and professional development. Her knowledge and skills are drawn from previous roles including Director of Leeds Met Gallery & Studio Theatre where she was responsible for the programme of temporary exhibitions and included the work of established artists including Ori Gersht, Cornelia Parker, Rachel Whiteread and The Quay Brothers alongside solo shows of regional artists. She was also one of the founding directors of Situation Leeds which ran festivals of art in the public realm in 2005 and 2007 and worked with cultural partners to deliver the Artist Taking the Lead project in Yorkshire as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012. Recent curatorial projects include Junction, a series of site sensitive commissions to transform street-side utility boxes and Billboards at Leeds Rail Station involving artists such as Matthew Darbyshire.
Matthew Hearn – Collector Development Manager, North East
Matthew is a curator and writer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He originally studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and since 2008 has been a part time lecturer on their undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In 2012 he completed a PhD on the Locus+ Archive with University of Sunderland. Between 2004 and 2008 Matthew worked with Locus+ developing projects with artists including Chris Burden, Layla Curtis, Janice Kerbel and Leo Fitzmaurice. He has previously curated exhibitions at Globe and National Glass Centre, Sunderland and worked on projects with the Laing Art Gallery, NGCA, VANE and Workplace. Working in collaboration with artists Thomas Whittle and Sebastian Trend, Matthew has most recently curated a two part exhibition, RIFF/T for BALTIC39.
