Sculptures from Sarah Lucas’ extraordinary show at the 56th Venice Biennale will be brought to the Soane Museum this month, the custard yellow of the drawing room having inspired the artist’s scheme at the British Pavilion.
Theaster Gates will be presenting his first and highly anticipated UK public project in Bristol, whilst in London Chantal Akerman’s show at Ambika P3 has a particular poignancy following her tragic death in October and pays tribute to her bold creative vision.
The Contemporary Art Society-commissioned Century Egg by Bedwyr Williams will be showing at British Art Show 8 in Leeds, whilst in London Damien Hirst’s new gallery opens with an intriguing look at the work of abstract painter John Hoyland.
Bloomberg New Contemporaries will be showing in three different venues across Nottingham before touring to London this year, with the Nottingham Castle Open on at the same time showing work from midlands-based artists. From there it is a short hop to see the brilliant Sir Terry Frost at Leamington Spa or artists including Jake and Dinos Chapman, Maurizio Cattelan and Marcel Duchamp in a series of exhibitions across Sheffield.
