We had a very successful launch event on Wednesday at the Hayward Gallery of the new Contemporary Art Society Annual Award for Museums, which was launched by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, The Rt Hon. Andy Burnham MP, and which was very well attended by 200 guests.

This new award, funded by the Sfumato Foundation, forms part
of the Contemporary Art Society Centenary celebrations and is worth £60,000 to one of our museum members to fund a new commission by a contemporary artist in response to their permanent collection, to enter their collection.

The Award will be selected by a panel of internationally acclaimed artists including Martin Boyce, Rosalind Nashashibi and Olivia Plender and announced at the Contemporary Art Society Annual Reception in November. Turner Prize winning artist Mark Wallinger joined us a guest speaker and spoke about his current curated show at the Hayward Gallery, The Russian Linesman, and we were blessed with beautiful weather, which enabled us to hold the reception on the terrace at the South Bank.
