For over ten years, the Economist Plaza provided a cutting edge outdoor public exhibition space in Central London for a continuous programme of commissioned sculptural works by contemporary artists.
The programme was curated by the Contemporary Art Society, and was designed to reflect the widest possible range of responses to the site, as well as to represent different trends and practices in contemporary art.
Five to six commissions were exhibited each year, showcasing the work of many young and emerging artists and reflecting the Contemporary Art Society's expertise in identifying promise and the Economist's reputation for being 'ahead of the curve'.
The programme came to an end in March 2010, but viewers can revisit the collection of pioneering artworks that inhabited this city space in the project archive.
