Rugby Art Gallery and Museum: Artist Talk - A K Dolven

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum: Artist Talk - A K Dolven
29 April 2010 18:30 — 20:00
Rugby Art Gallery and Museum Little Elborow Street, Rugby CV21 3BZ

It Could Happen to You, by A K Dolven was the first moving image work to be acquired by Rugby Art Gallery and Museum through the Contemporary Art Society’s Distribution Scheme. Now a well loved work for audiences to the gallery, this will be the first time that the artist will have seen the work within the context of the collection at Rugby. AK Dolven’s talk will help place this physically small, yet extremely powerful piece within the broader scope of her practice.

The film and video works of A K Dolven share a concern with portraiture, composition and the passage of time. Many of her previous works have made reference to famous paintings which she has re-staged in a contemporary setting. More recently the artist has staged her work in the landscape of the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway above the Arctic Circle. This extreme and beautiful environment provides a backdrop to her explorations of the poetic relationship between landscape and the human body.

The exhibition, Rugby Collection 2010 continues until 11 June
2010.

Born in 1953, in Oslo, A K Dolven lives and works in London and Norway. Exhibitions in 2010 include: Ahead, Platform China, Beijing, China; Untuned Bell, Tullinlokka, Oslo, Norway; the day the sky became my ground, Wilkinson Gallery, London.
