Curator-led Tour – Dark Matters

Dark Matters is an exhibition which focuses on the idea of shadows and brings together the work of 10 contemporary artists, including Manchester-based artists Brass Art and Pavel Buchler.

In many cases the artists have used digital technology to create pieces including Daniel Rozin’s Snow Mirror and R. Luke Dubois’ Kiss, a sparkling computer-generated version of cinematic romance. Other highlights include Barnaby Hosking’s imposing Black Flood that challenges our perceptions in the dark, and large photographic works by Idris Khan presenting historically important texts as translucent, layered shadows.

The evening will also include the chance to view The Whitworth’s recent acquisition of David Hockney’s famous print series, A Rake’s Progress. This portfolio was gifted through the Contemporary Art Society, as a bequest from Dr Roland Lande, in memory of his life partner Walter Urech, 2011.
