Beatrice Hodgkin is the author of Affordable Contemporary Art: A Guide to Buying and Collecting (2011). In this talk, she will offer practical and down-to-earth guidance for people who want to know more about buying and collecting contemporary art across a variety of media. Full of useful tips and advice, it will be invaluable to anyone interested in collecting. We are delighted to be able to offer free places to members of the Contemporary Art Society.

This event has been organised to coincide with A Private Affair – Personal Collections of Contemporary Art (28 January – 5 May 2012) at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery. Organised in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Society, this exhibition tells the personal stories behind private collections of contemporary art and includes work from emerging Northern artists to internationally recognised artists.

To order a copy of Affordable Contemporary Art at the preferential price of £14 (RRP £19.95) including free p&p within the UK, please call Sue Slee on 01394 389 977 or e-mail and quote ‘Contemporary Art Society’. This offer is valid until 5 May 2012.

This event is part of a series of events programmed by the Contemporary Art Society in the North East. Membership costs £50 per year / £25 for students.

If you are not yet a member and would like to join, or to receive further information about the organisation and its activities, please contact Rebecca Morrill at or call 07815 830 182.
