Emma Hart is the inaugural artist in CIRCA Projects’ Space Release programme. The exhibition of her work will bring audiences into an immediate and playful use of site, space, video and sculpture.

The exhibition is presented and co-produced in partnership with Matt’s Gallery in London, as part of a touring presentation of the work ‘TO DO’, which was commissioned and presented in its original format by Matt’s Gallery in Autumn 2011. In this work, Emma Hart calls on the potential for a camera to precipitate an event, and not simply record it. Developing previous live works into a sculptural video installation that performs itself, Hart requests the audience to do likewise: to step up, instead of hanging back in contemplation.  Her work was described in The Guardian as having “a gleeful inventiveness and refreshingly daft sense of humour.”

CIRCA Projects have been working with Matt’s Gallery and Emma Hart since July 2011 on the development of the project, which will include a site-specific remaking of TO DO for the Space Release programme.

Join us for this out-of-hours exhibition tour and hear Judith Carlton, General Manager of Matt’s Gallery, talk about both Emma Hart’s latest work and broader artistic practice.
