University of Leeds Public Art Strategy

CAS Consultancy developed a public art strategy reflecting Leeds University’s four key themes:

  • Enhancing their standing as an international institution
  • Achieving a world-leading research profile
  • Inspiring students to develop their full potential
  • Increasing their impact on a local to global scale

The vision was to enable the University to take a leading role in 21st century public art practice – locally, nationally and internationally. Today, in addition to a new Public Art Trail around the campus and a plethora of events within the programme, a public art research institute is being established.

We appointed Simon Fujiwara to produce the University’s first publicly sited commission outside the new Undergraduate Library. A Spire is now a key feature of the Public Art Trail.

We played a key role in the selection and installation of a new commission by Keith Wilson, Sign for Art.
