In 2012 the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust appointed CAS Consultancy to develop an art strategy with the aim of providing an overall policy for the integration of art across its operations and capital developments.

The strategy set out a coherent and high-quality approach, delivered through sustainable and best practice guidelines, supporting the Trust’s vision to be the leading provider in their specialist area of mental health.

By embedding art in the Trust’s operations, the physical environment was aesthetically enhanced and a distinctive brand identity created. An engagement strategy allowed for Trust staff, service users and the wider community to benefit from the art programme across multiple sites.

Ensuing art commissions included site-specific works by Nicky Hirst and James Ireland at the Kingfisher Court mental health unit and four site-specific murals by Lothar Götz at Little Plumstead Hospital.
