The Contemporary Art Society was appointed to work with the 5 Host Boroughs cultural unit and Design for London on a public art support programme in 2010.

Working with the five London boroughs which surround the Olympic park (Greenwich, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest) the Contemporary Art Society provided a curatorial overview of public art initiatives in each borough with a view to supporting the development of a long term strategic approach to public art across the region.

The work came at a crucial time given the rapid regeneration and development of the host boroughs’ public realm as a result of the 2012 Olympic games. The Contemporary Art Society worked closely with the boroughs with the aim of reaching an understanding of key local issues and to promote a cross-borough exchange of knowledge in order to leave a legacy for public art that would continue long after the games.
