100 Years of Gifts at York Art Gallery offers a fascinating snapshot of British art over the last decade, bringing together works acquired by Yorkshire galleries with the support of the Contemporary Art Society.
Featuring paintings, sculptures and photography from a wide range of well-known British artists — from pioneers of British Modernism such as David Bomberg, William Roberts and Henry Moore, to ‘Young British Artists’ including Sarah Lucas, Gillian Wearing and Tacita Dean. The exhibition at York Art Gallery also contained a newly commissioned video projection by Torsten Lauschmann. Growing Zeros (Digital Clock), 2010, is one of a number of works by this artist which relate to time, and which forms a larger body of work begun in 2008.
Participating collections: Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery, York Art Gallery, Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, and Graves Art Gallery, Museums Sheffield.
