Mit Senoj lives and works in Manchester, UK and is represented by Bureau Gallery. Senoj was the winner of the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2009.
statement
The Visceral Self
‘Our predilection is to augment our bodies with all means of social and historical Increments. We are garbed in cultural definition, exposing self-regard and possession of lifestyle. Whilst naked we are still unable to escape the prescribed aesthetic.
These appendages of culture have obscured the fundamental aspects of the human body. We have become estranged from our visceral self, unable to focus on our vulnerability. Beneath the surface of the skin is a hidden topography, a human atlas of forms.These I distort from their natural order, into the unimaginable outward representation of ourselves’.
