biography

James Brooks completed his MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2004 and lives and works in London.

Since 2004 Brooks has shown in group exhibitions at Riflemaker, Seventeen, Trinity Contemporary, The Drawing Room, Arcade, DomoBaal and Tate Britain (all London), aswell as Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris and Galerie Martina Detterer, Frankfurt. In 2008 he had a solo exhibition, 'Translations' at Monika Bobinska, London and in 2009 exhibited in ‘The Illusion of Reality’, Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall, Norway.

Brooks also curated the Arts Council of England-funded drawing exhibition ‘Until it Makes Sense’ which was shown in Paris and London and in 2008 he curating the show ‘The Royal Republic’.

Furthermore, he wrote on Contemporary Drawing for the publication/symposium ‘Drawing: the future’ held at The National Gallery, London.

James Brooks was featured in Contemporary Art Society’s ARTFutures 2007 held at Bloomberg SPACE, London.
