biography

Since completing his MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2004, James Brooks has exhibited at Tate Britain, Domobaal, Seventeen, Trinity Contemporary, Arcade, AF Projects, Posted, Primo Alonso and Riflemaker. Internationally Brooks has exhibited at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris/ Galerie Martina Detterer, Frankfurt/ Trinity Contemporary, New York/ Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall, Norway/ Galerie Laurent Mueller, Paris.

Brooks has had solo exhibitions at Trinity Contemporary, London, Monika Bobinska Gallery, London and 126 Gallery, Ireland and has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Galerie Martina Detterer, Frankfurt in September 2011.

Brooks also curated the Arts Council-funded drawing exhibition Until it Makes Sense and The Royal Republic. Furthermore, he wrote on Contemporary Drawing for the publication/ symposium Drawing: the future held at The National Gallery, London.

Brooks was selected for Contemporary Art Society's ARTfutures 2007 held at the Bloomberg space, London.

His work is in the collections of University of Arts London, Thaddaeus Ropac collection, Gottesman collection and the David Roberts Arts Foundation.

He lives and works in London.
