Helen Frik was featured in Contemporary Art Society's ARTfutures 2005 held at Bloomberg SPACE, London. Solo exhibitions include Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Netherlands (1996), Gemeentemuseum, the Hague, Netherlands (2005), Musée Des Beaux-Arts, Dôle, France (2006) and Chapter Art Centre Cardiff, UK (2010).

Frik is represented by David Risley Gallery, Copenhagen and Nouvelles Images, The Hague, Netherlands.

"Girdulent: All encompassing, enveloping everything with an oozing slide, a slow moving unarresting flow of thick slime, and repugdulent to the utmost extreme found in life or nature. The thing that will happen, no matter what or who, try as you may.

Distasteful, like bitter melon in the mouth, somehow placed there out of inquisitiveness forced under duress. Immobile and strangely lumpy, without profile despite it’s tight syrupy meniscus, surprisingly heavy and nigh impossible to get under a good grip. Something as clear as an imbecile who doggedly refuses to act as you instruct, to the disadvantage eventually of everyone. Stubbornness born of stupidity. Why? Why not.

A complex interdependent life crawled into with eyes tightly shut, with the thickness of cake preventing sight along the straight lines leading toward the exit. Every turn ensnares tighter, each cry of surprise meets a cold unheard echo.

One morning you awake, lighter, so light that it seems unreal. In a moment the reason comes back to roost in it’s new internal store place. It is so incredibly unreal, so strong. It defies all the well-known problems, the deplorably graded situation up until now. Nothing matters, all can, and furthermore all will be possible. Similar to a chunky vegetarian sandwich: interesting and good for you."
