biography

Charlie England was featured in Contemporary Art Society's ARTfutures 2005 held at Bloomberg SPACE, London.

 

statement

"My most recent works have focused on the anti-fraud patterns used on security documents and currencies. The patterns and features on these documents aim to provide social security. They are an integral part of our day-to-day living, and are used to value self.

The works are produced using the exact techniques found within the specific documents. This mirroring of the process is essential as it creates a direct link to the original.

By re-appropriating these patterns, I aim to make them carnivalesque and jettison their original intent and meaning, becoming just pattern and pure aesthetic. It is from this position that the questioning of its original value takes place."
