Offering the grotesque as a creative strategy, I attempt to locate my practice within the precarious relationships that exist within systems of excess. Navigating the constantly negotiated lines between the desirable and the abject, the ornamental and the excremental, the tyrannical and the iconic.
Objects lifted from failed histories reoccur in my work for the sole purpose of establishing a vernacular for excess, placing them within a constructed hierarchy of desires and exposing their complicity to a circus of cyclical collapse. Drawings, objects and installations depict an entanglement of grotesque and often desperately humorous gestures that hover between the familiar and the abstract and are caught between the production and negation of symbols.
